Telligent raises $20 from Intel Capital

Intel Capital, Intel’s global investment organization, today announced an agreement to acquire a $20 million stake in Telligent Systems, makers of social computing solutions and business intelligence tools. Based in Dallas, Telligent will utilize the funds to expand its sales teams and territories, including growth in international markets, as well as increase its marketing and advertising initiatives and product development plans.

Telligent is in an increasingly crowded market for community servers and collaboration tools. Their flagship tool, Graffiti CMS, is a Microsoft IIS/.NETbased product. The company has engaged in some non traditional adrestising, buying the keyword "wordpress" going head-to-head with WordPress' product and boasting an easy install. It's not clear to me how they plan to compete in a market saturated with the likes of Pluck, BuddyMedia, Bunchball, KickApps, mZinga, Ning just to name a few...
